Coimbatore - My city.... Lived there right from 1976 - the day i came into the world. City was too small by that time, where one could find that city ends at Avanashilingam college in the north, Sundarapuram in the south, Peelamedu in the east and Lawly road in the west literally. Nothing you could find after this areas during that period....
Now the city is growing to brims and expanding in all the directions. Development everywhere- a good sign for the city dwellers - but not for the eco system in the city.
Once i could easily walk in the megricar road, unaffected by the scroaching sun. But now literally all the trees are cut and no place to hide in the sun. Samecase with the widening of avinashi road which is good for the city in terms of infrastructural development. But all the trees are uprooted and no plans to increasing the green belt in the city - which will have serious repercussions in the years to come.
My city should have come to lime-light many years ago before the other tier-II cities. Coimbatore serial blasts has taken the city back to history by atleast 10 years. But no one can stop coimbatore which has the enterprising manpower to become a beacon of India.
Thanks to no support from the Government - its unfortunate but it is true that coimbatore will not have representation in the state government whoever rules in chennai. Coimbatore rules or leads in its own way- take Siruthuli for example.... If we have depended on government to carry out these initiatives - we would have ended no where.
